SMUX Kayaking Team is mainly expedition-based. Its main objectives are to spread the passion of kayaking and paddling related activities to the SMU community through the organising of expeditions and courses. Our main activities includes Kayaking STAR courses, local and overseas expeditions, and whitewater rafting! Local expeditions allow us to explore the waters around Singapore and itsneighbouring islands for example: Sisters’ Islands and Pulau Hantu. In 2010, we also held our very first overseas expedition to the beautiful Johor Lama, Malaysia!
Besides the activities planned for SMU students, SMUX Kayaking members also do meet up fortnightly for their regular dose of kayaking. Some regular places include Pulau Ubin, Punggol Beach and the Kallang Basin (where the Marina Bay Sands, Esplanade and Helix Bridge is at).
In mid 2006, a new initiative – Canoe Polo, has also been set up within the Kayaking Team. The sport, which is already very established in many other tertiary institutions, is slowly gaining more members as their training progresses. Weekly trainings are held at Kallang River, although the Team is still in the process of sourcing for a better and more ideal training ground.
