Established since 2000, SMUX Diving Team is part of SMUXtremists, the adventure arm of SMU. We aim to provide a platform for avid and new divers in the SMU community to interact, share knowledge and pursue their passion for the sea and its marine life.
As a team, our goal is to introduce diving to the uninitiated, sharing with them the majestic beauty of the underwater world. Most importantly, we hope to spread our love of the ocean to the rest of SMU.
We provide certification dives. On average, the diving team organizes up to 5 trips per year. On these trips, non-divers can look forward to obtaining their PADI OpenWater Diver certification, whereas divers can improve their skill sets up to Advanced, Rescue and Divemaster certification.
We Travel! We frequent Tioman, Dayang and Redang. We do become more adventurous nearing the festive season and venture to further dive sites like Manado, Similans, and Sipadan which has been touted as one of the most beautiful dive spots in Southeast Asia.
We love Mother Earth! Besides exploring the wonders of nature underwater, we are also a strong advocate of marine conservation. The annual Reef Alert, held in summer, tackles issues that pose threats to the marine life. Our reef walks and diving trips attempt to educate the SMU community about Diving Safety, Conservation issues and education about the marine life. In 2009, we re-introduced our monthly newsletter – the Current, providing bite-size articles about new, travel, environment, lifestyle and culture and tips and secrets to the SMU community!
We know how to have fun! We are a tight knit bunch of people whom are passionate about the ocean. We are interested in dabbling with all underwater activities and have gone into underwater hockey. Our weekly underwater hockey sessions provide a competitive element for those who want an adrenaline rush, or just a friendly workout with friends.
