SMUXtremists (SMUX) was established in 2000 by a group of like-minded students who sought to share their passion for the outdoors with others in the Singapore Management University (SMU). Starting off with just 9 individuals, SMUX has in just a short period of nine years grown to become an established and respectable club within the SMU community. Currently, with a 1000-strong membership base, and managed by a dedicated team of 15 committee members, SMUX is consistently the most active and largest Co-Curricular Activities (CCA) Club in SMU.
SMUXtremists consists of 6 teams, namely: Biking, Diving, Kayaking, Trekking, Skating and the XSeed team. Over the years, it has organized many exciting land-based and sea-based activities, including mountain biking, road and leisure cycling outings, overseas trekking expeditions and diving trips, kayaking expeditions to the Southern Islands of Singapore and cable ski trips in Batam Island, as well as adventure courses to equip outdoor enthusiasts with relevant skills. One of the club’s main objectives is to reach out and promote the outdoors to the entire SMU population, so that they too may adopt a healthy and adventurous lifestyle.
In 2006, SMUX became a constituent body (CBD) to represent and serve as the outdoor adventure arm of SMU. With that in mind, this year, we have organized numerous value-adding activities for the school population; such as the SMUX Camp, NiteBike and SMU Adrace.
Signature Events
SMUX Camp
Since the setting up of the club in 2000, SMUX Camp has always been one of the most exciting events on the SMUX calendar. Held in either July or August every year, SMUX Camp’s main objective was to introduce the newly matriculated freshmen to one of the most dynamic CCAs in SMU. The 3 day 2 night camp sees participants trying out various outdoor activities such as cycling, dive tryouts, kayaking, trekking, skating, which represents the different outdoor elements that SMUX has to offer.
Besides allowing the participants a try at the different outdoor activities, SMUX Camp also gave these freshmen the opportunity to widen their social circle, and catch a glimpse of the exciting SMU student life.
NiteBike
Started in 2003, SMUX NiteBike has over the years, managed to establish itself as one of the most anticipated events on both the SMU and SMUX calendar. While SMUX Camp caters to the freshmen, SMUX NiteBike is open to all students, and is normally held in September, on the 4th week of the 1st term on the SMU academic calendar.
Exploring different routes every year, SMUX Nitebike sees participants cycling across the island through the night, stopping at the various supper places for a quick bite, as well as designated game stations for some fun filled games. Besides having the chance to make new friends, SMUX NiteBike also gives participants the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful sights and sound of Singapore after the dark.
SMU Adrace
The SMU Adventure Race is an annual adventure race organized by SMUXtremists, the outdoor adventure Student Body of Singapore Management University.
